CLASSROOM TECH

computerWarlick hits the nail on the head with students loving to see their material posted, otherwise they would not be writing their thoughts on their own blog, I do find it disturbing because students do not have a self management on their thoughts or emotions at this time of their life and I am afraid what they could inadvertently post without thinking of the ramifications.  I cannot see how I would use a blog in my classes. Maybe because business is a traditional class that I cannot see how it would be used.  I literally can see no use for it.

I am not a business teacher but how about this…Perhaps each student, or group of students could be assigned a particular business such as Wal-Mart or locally owned stores to represent. As you teach or discuss new topics, they would have to post an entry explaining how this topic applies to their business. Could this work maybe? They could visit each other’s blogs to compare and contrast how the same topic affects each type of business differently. Just thought I would pitch that idea.

I am enjoying your blog very much, and agree with almost all of your insights. I would mention that I do get a little miffed when people say that I am a technology enthusiasts. I can see why people would see that, but I think of myself as more of an information enthusiast. It’s the changing nature of information/content that we should be paying attention to. Technology is only the conduit.

Also, I disagree with you about the new tools having no place in business. Many corporations are encouraging their employees to blog. It is opening up communication and giving business leaders insights into ideas that come from the ranks. A friend of mine developed the blogging software used by Sun Microsystems. He said that they were surprised to learn that more supervisors were subscribing to the blogs of their subordinates, than the other way around.

I think that our/your students will determine how they will use technology in business. Ask them to predict how blogging, IM, or social networks might be used to help a business prosper.

Thanks again for your contribution to the blogosphere.
